Family get together

 Beautiful sisters!

Even though we had just seen Kara in Logan, she had been planning a trip to Maryland.  Daniel and Julia were home from college and Erika and Tyler were still at our house--they moved soon after.
 We took some day trips

around Havre de Grace where Dave has a project.

My Dad's Space Missions

My Dad was a mechanical engineer, and designed various things for space missions over the years.  On the table were a collection of patches he received.  Each patch represents a mission.  Some of them were joint missions with the Soviets or other countries.
These symbolize some of the great work he did in his career that served his country.  He was honored a few years ago with a Lifetime Achievement award by NASA, of which he was rightfully proud.

Logan Canyon

While in Logan for my Dad's funeral, we took a trip up Logan canyon with James and Tammy and Kara's family.
This is a cool place where water comes up from underground.
With our grandkids Jacob and Blake.
 Exploring the cave openings.

We drove further up the canyon and actually got stuck in snow and had to turn around-- in May!
These aspen trees are my favorite.  It was nice to see the canyon again where Dave and I went on our first date 30 years ago.

My Dad

       My Dad and I

Last Friday, May 3, 2013, Andrea's Concert Choir (go to 23:58) performed a beautiful Mormon Tabernacle Choir arrangement of  Homeward Bound.  I was very moved by the words and music. It reminded me of my ailing father, who I had flown to visit a couple weeks earlier while he was in the hospital. I later learned that my father passed away on this evening, which made the song even more touching.

Andrea put together a beautiful slide show of pictures of my Dad's life--using the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's version of the song as background

Daniel sings with renowned group, Vocal Spectrum

Daniel's BYU Barbershop quartet group performed with the renowned international collegiate barbershop group, Vocal Spectrum.  Afterwards, he asked if they would mind singing one of the numbers with him.

While we were in Logan for my father's funeral, we visited the house I rented while I attended Utah State University for my Master's degree. This is where Dave paid me my first evening and we spend the evening playing and singing Carol King songs on the piano.  And the rest is history...
Playing across the street with Jacob and Blake
 With James and Tammy also

And here is the church where we met on Mother's Day, 1983.  Thirty years later, I can see that our fortuitous meeting that day will affect many generations.

Funeral for my father

My father passed away on May 3rd.  He would have been 80 on May 24th.  He was buried just about 1/2 mile from his home in North Logan, Utah.  The pall bearers included my husband David, brother Erik, and son James, as well as Susan's six sons, who also called him father.

The playing of the bagpipes was beautiful.

The gravesite in a very peaceful location near his Logan home.
Back at Dad and Susan's home, James and Tammy and Dave visit with other family. James and Tammy were able to drive down from Seattle.
Kara and her family also drove from Denver.  Here she is with Blake.

Susan with her sister, and Dad's beloved dog, Olie.  We will all miss you, Dad.  I love you!

Daniel sings with Vocal Spectrum

Daniel heard the men's barbershop group Vocal Spectrum in concert, and went backstage and asked to sing a song with them. It sounds awesome. :)
